Beading Memory, No. 1 The tapestry tells our collective memories of the war in northern Uganda. We wanted to remember what we went through and to also tell our children what we went through. It is composed of handmade beads, each cut from long strips of paper, and rolled tightly into different shapes, sizes and colors. We washed, varnished and then dried them. Then we worked collectively using thread and needle to sew each bead by hand onto the tapestry. Sewing this bead piece took a lot of dedication, hard work, technique and concentration. It brought out strong feelings and emotions.
