Knowledge Exchanges: Transformative Memory International Network focuses on experiential, emplaced and embodied learning as a form of knowledge production and as an engaged research method. In the two Exchanges below, we continue working on the question of what makes memory transformative by fostering conversations with social, artistic and local movements of memory, each with a long history of political and creative work in their regions. The Exchanges provide an opportunity to learn and dialogue with representatives from a host of memory initiatives in different landscapes of memory. These groups, institutions or individuals use a variety of languages and means for their work of memory and have different histories and approaches to the questions of memory in the context of mass violence.

Memolab: The MemoLab serves as an exploratory space, both physical and conceptual, for intensive knowledge exchange and research creation at the intersection of science, technology, art, and practice. It is a lab space where artists, academics, and activists explore key concepts, methods and ideas in “creative time” group sessions, exploratory workshops, and site visits. Grounded in a methodology of care, reciprocity, respect and collaboration, the Memolab participants engage in group sessions, incorporating discussions, creative work pieces, and doing memory and art.
